santa came early this year

Rod and I are switching life insurance plans and had to schedule an in-home physical. I was in the kitchen when the doorbell rang. Rod and Lily answered the door and brought the medic into the living room. All of a sudden, Lily let out a loud gasp and began screaming and running through the house in excitement. "Santa is here! Santa is here!" I knew instantly what the physical demeanor of this man was before I ever laid eyes on him. She would not stop screaming about Santa and was so excited that he was actually in our house. Afterall he was 6 months early. It is every child's dream.

Because of my personality, I chose to avoid the issue and to just hope that the man did not understand her chatter. Because if I deny the situation is happening, it really isn't......right? Unfortunately my husband didn't get the mental telepathy that I was sending his way concerning this brilliant plan of action. Instead, Rod blurts out to the man with a chuckle, "She thinks you're Santa." I guess Rod thought it would be a compliment for this short, fat, bearded man with glasses to hear that our child thinks he is Santa Claus.

Santa was very gracious and put up with Lily's constant name calling. He breathed through all her inquiries about why he would be sticking a needle in Mommy's arm. He even forced a smile and told me how cute she was, but I don't think he was too amused.

He finally left after about half an hour. Lily had a very exciting morning interacting with Santa. But I'm sure she is wondering why Santa only came to draw blood and take urine samples instead of his regular milk and cookies.

That was a great read. I was laughing outloud . . . especially about Rod thinking it would be a complement to be compared with a short, fat, bearded guy with glasses. Too cute.

Is Lily wondering where her presents are?

Since she already thinks it's Christmas, it would only be appropriate if you got her that pink flamingo she had her eye on at the nursery a few weeks ago!
At least "Santa" didn't walk in while she was playing with blocks or ducks...he would have really gotten an earful.

That's hilarious! Remember the time that the cable guy came with his tool-belt on and Jackson(age 2) was calling him "Bob the Builder!" ;) I still remember that day!

As most audience members would be, I was right there in the moment experiencing every detailed thought that passed through Lily's creative and imaginitive mind. To have Santa Claus visit my house in the middle of summer. Wow, this is better than Christmas itself. Unfortunately, a visit from Santa Claus congures up something quite different than what you described. May I share? My first meeting with Santa was during the 1st grade when my family and I lived on Temple Hill in Erwin, Tennessee. My cousins, siblings and I were so excited. It was Christmas Eve and Santa was going to come to our house. My Dad and Uncle arranged it. They had such amazing connections. Santa did show up around 11 p.m., he was late. He staggered through Aunt Margie's front door, clothes all desheveled, carrying some non-descript jug with the top off and mummering ho-ho between his not-so-yule-tide statements about Mrs. Claus. That marked the very moment in my childhood when I, cute little Mitchy, lost my innocence. Bad Santa, BAD!!!
